A practical guide to Pixel Crowd, IMVU, Second Life, 3DXChat, and inZOI.

Virtual worlds can offer very different experiences. Some bring people together in shared rooms, while others focus on simulated lives, building, or sharing creations. The right choice depends on how you want to spend your time.

This guide is published by Pixel Crowd. We have included Pixel Crowd alongside other platforms so you can compare them by the activities that matter to you, without declaring a winner. Features and access requirements can change; check each platform's current information before deciding.

Start with the experience you want

If you want to meet other people as an avatar, look for a multiplayer social world. Pixel Crowd is an 18+ Windows social world with chat, friends, Circles, events, and customizable rooms. Its Chat & Friends guide explains some of the ways players connect.

IMVU centers on avatar chat rooms where people can socialize, furnish spaces, and host others. Second Life offers shared communities and destinations, along with tools for building and scripting. 3DXChat is an adult multiplayer social world with avatar customization and spaces for meeting other people.

inZOI approaches virtual life from a different starting point: life simulation. Its Canvas service lets people share character, outfit, property, room, and furniture presets. Sharing a creation for others to use is a different experience from meeting them live in the same room.

What is happening with inZOI multiplayer?

The official Canvastown preview, first posted September 11, 2026 and subsequently updated, describes multiplayer capabilities being developed and tested. These include more than 20 residents in a town, simultaneous house building, and visitor controls. The developer also explains that most of the team remains focused on the single-player foundation. Read the official Canvastown preview.

Those are development details, not confirmation that every feature is publicly available. This review did not establish a public multiplayer release. Check the latest official release information before choosing inZOI specifically for shared play.

For players comparing it with Pixel Crowd, the useful distinction is the experience available to them: Pixel Crowd centers on participating as an avatar in a social multiplayer world; inZOI combines life simulation and creation tools with a separately described multiplayer development direction.

Decide what “building” means to you

A furnished room, an original object, and a house built together are different kinds of creative work. Think about which sounds most appealing.

Decorating and hosting: IMVU describes rooms that users can furnish and use to host conversations. Pixel Crowd's Room Editor lets players shape their own spaces; its rooms and creators guide is a useful starting point. 3DXChat also provides a World Editor for creating environments.

Constructing and scripting: Second Life supports building and scripting within its wider shared world. If you enjoy making interactive spaces or exploring a creator community, those tools may be relevant to your choice. Check its official overview and creation resources for the skills involved.

Importing and sharing creations: Pixel Crowd supports GLB object uploads through its object store. In inZOI, Canvas uploads can include Build Mode property, room, and furniture presets, as well as characters and outfits. These workflows serve different purposes; review the supported formats and publishing steps for the platform you choose.

Building at the same time: Inviting friends into a finished room is different from editing that room together. The Canvastown preview describes simultaneous house building under development. Pixel Crowd's Room Editor is covered here as a room-creation tool; simultaneous editing by multiple players has not been verified for this guide.

Consider how you want to express yourself

Avatars may be a casual identity for chatting, a character in a story, or a creative project in their own right. Pixel Crowd, IMVU, Second Life, and 3DXChat all place avatars in social settings, while inZOI also supports sharing characters and outfits through Canvas.

Pixel Crowd offers avatar customization and a photo and video camera for capturing moments. Its avatar customization guide and Camera, Selfies & Video guide explain those tools.

For animation creators, Pixel Motion supports importing Genesis 8-compatible GLB animations for use in rooms. Creators prepare the animation externally; the import workflow does not create the movement automatically.

Think about what matters most to you: changing outfits, making a character recognizable, creating animations, taking pictures, or expressing a simulated person's personality through play. Each activity can call for a different set of tools.

Look at the creator community

Creator contributions can help a world feel personal, but the ways people make and share content vary.

IMVU's creator tools support products such as clothes, accessories, rooms, and furniture. Second Life has a creator marketplace alongside its building and scripting tools. Pixel Crowd supports object-store uploads and compatible custom animations. inZOI's Canvas supports sharing creations and presets.

If you hope to contribute, look beyond the finished catalog. Check whether you need external software, which file formats are accepted, and how review or publishing works. Review each platform's rules, fees, and rewards separately. Second Life's creator economy and Pixel Crowd's virtual coins should not be assumed to work alike: Pixel Crowd describes coins as virtual currency with no cash exchange. Pixel Crowd terms.

Check access before you settle in

A few practical checks can save time:

  • Age and content: Pixel Crowd and 3DXChat are adult platforms. Do not assume every service in this guide has the same age rules or content policies.
  • Device and performance: Pixel Crowd's supported game client runs on Windows. Check current hardware and platform requirements for each service.
  • Costs and accounts: Review memberships, optional purchases, and any costs associated with creating or accessing content. Pixel Crowd game access and optional store items are separate.
  • The specific feature you want: Distinguish available features from previews and development plans.
  • Your social circle: Check where your friends play and whether the activities you want to share are available to all of you.

Pixel Crowd also offers Pixelife on the website, so your community can stay connected between game sessions. Access depends on your character and game-access status; see the Pixelife guide and game-access information.

Choose your first activity

Start with something you can picture yourself returning to: a conversation, a room to decorate, a world to construct, or a life to simulate. You may find that different platforms suit different interests.

For a closer look at Pixel Crowd, browse community screenshots, explore the player guides, and check Windows requirements and current memberships.

Pixel Crowd, IMVU, Second Life, 3DXChat, and inZOI are separate services. Accounts, purchases, and inventories do not transfer automatically between them. Inclusion here does not imply affiliation or endorsement.
